Scottsdale isn't your traditional college town, but it has a lot to offer individuals interested in gaining a postsecondary education. This Sonora desert city of approximately 220,000 residents offers plentiful activities outside of class. Just a few miles away from Phoenix, Scottsdale is home to ample restaurants, nightlife venues, museums, downtown shopping and golf courses, while nature preserves and the nearby Verde River provide opportunities for hiking, climbing, kayaking and rafting. Nearly 10,000 students attend Scottsdale Community College, and it's easy to see why: The college offers more than 20 programs leading students to professional certificates, associate degrees and univeristy transfers. SCC offers programs including computer information, drafting, equine science, interior design, hospitality, fashion merchandising, nursing, and tribal management.

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts also has a campus in Scottsdale, offering training to students interested in a cooking or restaurant career. Educational offerins at le Cordon Bleu in Scottsdale covers an array of certificates, associate and bachelor's degrees across culinary arts, baking and pastry arts and management disciplines. The Paralegal Institute, Inc., offers diplomas and associate degrees in a variety of fields such as allied health, criminal justice, legal nurse consulting and paralegal training.

Schools in the Greater Scottsdale Area

Though the colleges in Scottsdale have a lot of offer potential students, the surrounding area also has a wealth of educational opportunities for today's learners. The Art Institute of Phoenix, for example, offers those with a flair for design courses to hone their skills; the Universal Technical Institute in Avondale offers tech certifications and degrees. Those interested in more traditional college studies will appreciate the close proximity of Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, and Northern Arizona University, all located less than 20 minutes away in Phoenix.
